Section 01Background
I am a UK-trained medical doctor (MBBS) with current GMC registration and a licence to practise (reference 7835999). My clinical experience sits across primary care, aesthetics and the regulated edges of consumer health, the same surfaces where most UK advertising risk lives today.
Verattia Ltd is the company through which I provide doctor-led marketing assurance to UK online pharmacies, clinic groups and health marketing teams. The company is registered in England and Wales, Companies House 16396655, and trades from the United Kingdom only.
Section 02Why Verattia exists
Most claim-risk problems in UK health advertising do not need a lawyer. They need a clinician who reads the same rulebook the regulator reads and is willing to put a name on the page next to the verdict. That position barely exists in the market. Marketing agencies cannot sign a clinical opinion. Compliance lawyers can sign a legal opinion, but they read the rules from a different chair than a prescriber does.
Verattia is built around that gap. Every audit names the surface, names the claim, and cites the rule that governs it. Where a claim is defensible, the audit says so and explains why. Where it is not, the audit gives the wording that would be. The work is signed personally, on the record, against my GMC registration.
Section 03What I do for clients
- Clinical Claims Triage: a focused issue note on up to twenty nominated claims within one supplied asset. Scope, evidence limits and delivery conditions are set out in the current service catalogue.
- Whole-Surface Audit: a proactive inventory of material claims across an agreed, bounded list of web pages, delivered with evidence gaps, priority rewrites, escalation points and a signed action plan.
- Pre-publication review: a clinician-led read of ads, landing pages, intake funnels and pricing surfaces before they go live, flagging publish-blockers early.
- Regulatory-correspondence support: doctor-led input on ASA enquiries, MHRA correspondence, GPhC questions and the wording that follows them.
I do not provide legal advice. I provide a clinician’s reading of the published rules, signed in my own name. Brands that need a legal opinion engage a regulatory solicitor, often alongside the audit.
Section 04Frameworks I work in
The audits and the Insights feed both work from the same primary sources, in this priority order:
- Statute: the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, the Cancer Act 1939, and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, which replaced the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 from April 2025.
- Codes: the CAP Code (non-broadcast), the BCAP Code (broadcast), and any cross-referenced industry codes.
- Regulator guidance: the MHRA Blue Guide, GPhC standards, ASA adjudications and Enforcement Notices, and GMC Good Medical Practice where the surface is clinician-fronted.
- Sector-specific rulebooks: the GB Nutrition and Health Claims Register (NHCR) for foods and supplements, and any product-class rules that apply.
If the rule cited in an audit is not the right rule, that is a defect and gets corrected. If the rule cited is right but the verdict is contested, that is a discussion the brand and I have on the record before the report is finalised.
Section 05Editorial standard
Every Insights post is written and signed personally. Every post cites the rule it relies on with a link to the primary source on legislation.gov.uk, asa.org.uk, gov.uk or gmc-uk.org. Where a ruling is summarised, the adjudication URL is in the post. Where a frame shift is claimed, the underlying notice is linked.
None of the published commentary is legal advice. It is a clinician’s reading of public regulatory material, intended to help brand, marketing and compliance teams ask better questions of their own advisers.
If a published post is wrong on a primary source, I want to know and will correct it on the page with a visible dateModified.
